Visitors who use search typically convert at a significantly higher rate than visits without search. It is important to make search functionality easy to find and very user-friendly. This increases the chance of conversions for most visits, as it is not uncommon for users to already have a good idea of what they’re looking for. Trinity hypothisized that by redesigning the presentation of search in the global header, there would be an increase in the number of visits with search which would also mean an increase in overall conversion rate.
Trinity Insight created a multivariate test to figure out which combination of elements/presentations would increase the number of visitors who used search. The sections tested included:
After running the test for 24 days Combination 4 was declared a winner. Combination 4 had the same button presentation and verbiage prompt but the new layout design. This combination provided a 12% lift in visits with search. In addition to the provided lift, both conversion rate and progression rate were maintained, with a slight increase to both.
