Last Minute Holiday Shopping Happens On Mobile

Fluent, a digital marketing company recently released their post-holiday consumer survey. In it, they discovered that nearly 70% of of consumers did a majority of their shopping on mobile devices in the time leading up to the Christmas holiday.

Retail Is Still King

Traditional brick and mortar companies were still listed as the primary destination for nearly 65% of respondents, but online sales are poised to overtake them in the next few years. According to Reuters, stores in the United States saw an overall 8% drop in holiday sales. Despite this drop, however, overall sales from the season are expected to increase between 3.5% and 4% thanks to the increasing popularity of online shopping.

eCommerce is Mobile Commerce

Thanks to online retailers investing in their mobile shopping experiences, a majority of online shopping happened on handheld screens instead of traditional computer screens. This number will only grow as customers become more comfortable shopping on their increasingly capable mobile devices.

eCommerce will be the future of consumer sales, but it’s clear that companies who don’t optimize for mobile devices will soon find themselves in the same position brick and mortar stores are facing now. If you’re websites isn’t smartphone friendly now, it’s a good idea to make sure that it is in time for the 2015 holiday rush.
